Claire's Story
Claire was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease in December of 2018, when she was 6. What we thought was another run-of-the-mill strep infection, was actually KD. After a few days of antibiotics, her symptoms and sickness were getting worse, which never happened with strep. We were fortunate to have a doctor who recognized the new symptoms and got her to the hospital and treated the same day (day 6). Claire did not suffer any heart damage or lasting effects, however, about 6 months later, she began having severe gastro symptoms. In January of 2020 she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is on regular IV biologic medications along with others, to control that disease. Today, she is thriving despite both her challenges and we are hopeful her disease stays well controlled for a long time to come.
