Freya's Story
Freya is my free spirited 5 year old daughter who has such a bounce in her step. She was born 3 weeks premature but was born happy and healthy, at the age of 2.5 months freya had spiked a high fever and was very lethargic, I remember being so worried treating her fever with tylenol and setting her in her swing and she was groaning in pain. We took her to the local hospital , where they did x Ray's and ultrasounds, blood work and numerous other tests , they seemed very concerned but could not come to a decision on what was wrong , they then rushed us to the Childrens Hospital of Eastern ontario . We had a large team of doctors doing many tests to try and figure out where this fever was coming from. We spent 10 days in the hospital each morning the large team of doctors would meet in our room to discuss and brainstorm what could be wrong with Freya , me taking notes at the side so I could research after they left . On March 20th they came in rushing and sent us for a heart ultrasound and immediately after that they shipped us to the eye clinic where they tested her eyes after getting back from those tests and settling in once again the doctors had come in and said to me that they think she has Kawasaki disease and that if they didnt act quickly and give her an ivig treatment their could be other complications . Scared I took a moment and did my research on the treatments we decided to go ahead with it. A few days after treatments my little smiley baby peaked out and started to be more alert and happy. Never before hearing about Kawasaki disease the warnings the doctor had given me about fevers in the future and the risk of a heart attack scared me alot.
Freya recovered fully and had no other issues with her heart. We were very lucky we had a quick acting team of doctors !
Misdiagnosis?
